South West Africa Territorial Force Signal Corps
Beret Balkie Badge 1980 to 1990
[Colin Hodgkins collection SWA 0005]
This is an example of the South West Africa Territorial Force Signal Corps regimental Balkie. The badge is secured by two stick pins. This badge is of a white metal and epoxy resin faced construction. Balkies are worn below badges on berets.
The SWATF did not have their own Mercury ‘Jimmy’ style cap badge but wore a universal Gemsbok badge. To denote the wearer as being Signals this balkie bar was worn below the Gemsbok.
The colours are described as Green (left) Navy Blue (right) with an embedded grey diamond between. This, below the Gemsbok, was worn on an Olive green beret.
