The lineage, designations and history of 84 Signal Unit started in 1942 where in July with the formation of 14th SA Motorized Signal Squadron SACS in Durban. The Squadron was re-designated 1/14 Brigade Signal Squadron in July 1946. The establishment of 84 Motorized Brigade on 1st August 1975 saw the Squadron re-designated 84 Signal Squadron. The unit received Unit status in 1985 becoming 84 Signal Unit.
These are examples of 84 Signal Unit flashes. They are a metal based badge faced in coloured epoxy resin, secured by three stick pins.
Note: Many formations have left and right handed badges and some have the colour sequence also handed.
84 Signal Unit insignia is based on the 84 Motorized Brigade emblem. I is a gold Henry VII Halbath on a shield of horizontal Signal Corps colours of Green, light Blue and Dark Blue.
